10 Tips to Create Landing Pages in WordPress That Convert

Are you struggling to create landing pages in WordPress that actually convert visitors into customers? If so, don’t worry; you’re not alone! Crafting high-converting landing pages in WordPress might seem daunting, but fear not, I’ll help you master this art step by step.

In this guide, I am sharing 10 essential tips for creating landing pages in WordPress that not only look good but also work like a charm in getting you the conversions you need. And whether you’re an experienced marketer, WordPress developer or just starting your online journey, these tips will give you the confidence to build landing pages that truly resonate with your (or your client’s) audience.

Why are Landing pages important?

You see, landing pages are like your digital sales representatives – with one specific job: to persuade visitors to take action. Unlike your homepage, which welcomes all your website visitors, landing pages are like your personal cheerleaders, guiding your audience toward a specific goal. Whether it’s signing up for your fantastic newsletter or grabbing that exclusive freebie you’re offering, landing pages are tailored to get you leads and convert.

Now, let’s clear up common confusion. Some folks mistake a landing page for just any old page on their website. But that’s not the case! A landing page has a single, laser-focused objective, while a regular website page might have multiple purposes – like showcasing your products, sharing your blog posts, or introducing your team.

Here’s the secret sauce: When you have a targeted audience in mind, you can create a landing page that speaks directly to their needs, wants, and desires. That personal touch is what sets your landing page apart and drives those conversions through the roof!

So, imagine you or your client are a fitness enthusiast selling personalized workout plans. Instead of sending all visitors to a generic page about fitness, you’ll create a tailored landing page that talks directly to busy moms looking to get fit in just 15 minutes a day. See the difference?

By the end of this guide, you’ll have all the tools and know-how to create landing pages in WordPress that not only look great but also deliver real, measurable results. So, grab your notepad, get comfy, and let’s turn your WordPress landing pages into conversion machines!

2 Ways of Creating WordPress Landing Pages

Talking about WordPress, there are 2 ways to build a landing page using WordPress: within the theme itself or using a plugin. What’s the difference, you ask? Here, let me explain both ways.

Building a WordPress landing page within the theme

Simply, you start with creating a new Page on your WordPress site, ensuring you’re making it a static page, customize it with the steps I’m giving below, and publish it when you’re done. That’s all there is to it.

Building a WordPress landing page with a plugin

In case you don’t want the DIY approach, you can opt-in for one of the landing page plugins. Simply install it, follow the instructions as well as my steps below and you’ll have a converting landing page in no time!

Now, off to the essential steps!

10 Steps to Create Landing Pages in WordPress That Convert

Whatever way of building a WordPress landing page you choose, these are the very steps to implement to ensure high conversions and quality leads. Do not skip any of it, each of them is crucial and plays a significant role in making your goals a reality.

1. Know Your Audience:

Understanding your audience is the foundation of any successful landing page. Take the time to research their preferences, pain points, and interests. For example, if you’re targeting busy professionals looking for time-saving solutions, highlight the convenience and efficiency of your product or service. The more you know about your target audience, the better the content you produce will be. As simple as that.

2. Set Clear Goals:

Before you start building your landing page, define your objectives clearly. Are you aiming to capture leads, sell a product, or promote a webinar? Each goal requires a different approach, so make sure your page is designed to achieve the specific outcome you desire. And make sure to have one and only goal per landing page – otherwise, it will only confuse people and won’t make them convert. I promise.

3. Conduct Keyword Research:

To attract organic traffic and boost your page’s visibility, perform keyword research relevant to your offer. Incorporate these keywords strategically into your content, meta tags, and headlines. For example, if you’re offering a social media marketing course, target keywords like “social media marketing training” or “social media strategy course.” And see where it takes you from there. The more specific you are with targeting the right words, the warmer and buying-ready visitors you’ll attract.

4. Create an Attention-Grabbing Headline:

Your headline is your landing page’s first impression, so make it count! Use compelling language that resonates with your audience and clearly communicates the value of your offer. For instance, take a look at these two headlines:

“Weight Loss Program for Women”

“Transform Your Body and Boost Confidence: Join our 30-Day Weight Loss Challenge Today!”

The first one is generic and lacks any compelling element. It doesn’t stand out or make the reader want to learn more about the weight loss program.

The second headline works better because it not only highlights the benefits of the weight loss program but adds a sense of urgency as well, encouraging potential participants to take action immediately.

5. Craft Engaging Content:

Keep your content concise, benefit-driven, and easy to read. Use persuasive language to highlight how your offer can solve your audience’s problems. Bullet points and bold text can emphasize key points, making the content scannable and engaging. The best content is the one that answers these 5 W’s:

In short, knowing your “Who” helps you connect with your audience on a more personal level, while clearly communicating the “What” makes sure visitors understand your offer. By guiding them to the right place with the “Where,” you are creating a seamless user experience. Adding “When” sparks action, while highlighting the “Why” clearly showcases the value of your offer.

6. Add Images and Videos:

Visual content has a powerful impact on landing page conversions. They help in creating more relatability, trust and enhance the emotions needed to push that conversion. Include high-quality images or videos that showcase your product or service in action. For instance, if you’re promoting a travel destination, use vibrant images of beautiful landscapes and happy travelers.

7. Place a Strong CTA:

In a nutshell, call-to-action (CTA) is the driving force behind conversions. A clear and compelling CTA prompts visitors to act immediately. It tells them what step to take next, eliminating confusion and uncertainty. Consider it as a friendly invitation, encouraging your audience to engage with your offer. Make it stand out with contrasting colors and action-oriented text like “Get Started,” “Claim Your Free Trial,” or “Buy Now.” Position it prominently on the page, ensuring it’s easily accessible, and use it several times if the landing page is long.

8. Implement Trust Signals:

Build trust with your audience by including trust signals. Customer testimonials, client logos, or security badges can instill confidence in potential customers. For instance, if you’re offering a software product, display customer reviews praising its ease of use and effectiveness. In case you’re selling a course, include your certificates, previous students’ testimonials as that trust factor that will help them make a decision.

9. Optimize for SEO:

Ensure your landing page is optimized for search engines to attract organic traffic. Besides conducting keyword research for content creation, use them in the page title, URL, meta description, image optimization. However, remember to keep the focus on user experience and readability meaning: you’re writing for people who use search engines, not search engines themselves.

10.  Test and Analyze:

Regularly test different elements of your landing page to optimize its performance. Conduct A/B tests on headlines, CTA buttons, and images to identify what resonates best with your audience. Analyze conversion rates and bounce rates to identify areas for improvement. Google Analytics will specifically provide you with key metrics to track the performance and analyze the success of your landing page, so make sure to keep an eye on it regularly.
